Elie Saab is making magic
Elie Saab believes in magic. Not in a Harry Potter, wand-waving sort of way, but magic in the form of fairy-tale storytelling and making dreams come true. I'm in Paris to meet the designer in his private couture salon; a space above his boutique on Avenue Franklin Delano Roosevelt, where VIP clients enjoy personal consultations and fittings. It's a surprisingly minimal space, given the brand's reputation for glitz and glamour, with black high-shine floors, stark white walls and angular furniture. The magic comes via several mannequins dressed in spectacular lace and sequin couture gowns, with feathered trains, embellished bodices and glittering sleeves; inspiration for the ultra high-net-worth customers that adore Saab's princess-like creations. If Cinderella didn't have a fairy godmother, this is surely where she'd come.
